A reunion with many companions 🙋♂️Additive Manufacturing Forum I AM Forum Berlin – where the #3dprinting scene will meet again 🖨 Since July 2023 already various months run through since the last edition of this event took place. More than 750 experts, round about 75 speakers, I was one of them, and lot’s of exhibitors met in #Berlin to talk and discuss about main topics and developments related to #additivemanufacturing 🏨 Together with Christoph Völcker (Würth Group) as well as with Dr. Sebastian Piegert (Siemens Energy) we participated in the panel discussion: Driving #innovation – AM as enabling #technology, which was moderated super pleasantly and professional by Prof. Dr. Stephan Wagner from the ETH Zürich. This was an outstanding experience and my personal highlight ✨Characterized by a very positive mood and escorted by a great atmosphere, I was able to gain and take a lot of new impressions with me. In my opinion, meeting and networking with other great personalities of the additive scene was extreemly benefitial 🤝During this event, unfortunately, I received as well the feeling of “stepping on the spot”. Even if we saw a few exceptions, the transfer of additive manufacturing technologies into high volume #production is still very tough and only a few manage to overcome the hurdles 🧗♂️In addition, the event was certainly also influenced by the topic of #sustainability. I will expect significant further developments in this field as closed material cycles are one of the key elements in my eyes to step forward ♻Furthermore, the need for improved training and education concepts was discussed as specialized experts for manufacturing purposes are still not available in sufficient quantities and, if they are, often only of inadequate quality 👨🏫I’m looking very much forward meeting again various friends around the Berlin community of MGA Mobility | MGA Medical - Mobility goes Additive e.V. and Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH. Let’s see what developments the scene has made. My feet have just touched ground after an eye opening first day at the Additive International Conference. As a technology, amongst many benefits, additive manufacturing’s near net forming capability has the potential to slash waste in manufacturing processes, thus supporting the sustainability of future products. Professors Richard Hague and Christopher Tuck opened the event which evolved into a continuous flow of innovation. Looking at my list of learning points, every presentation and conversation had a sustainability angle, from reducing the volume of virgin material required in powder-based additive manufacturing processes to using additive manufacturing to boost the longevity of products by tackling component obsolescence. I will be investigating these and many more additive manufacturing innovations in the weeks and months to come.
