The BBC has come under fire after the leaders of the Green Party were left out of its General Election profiles.

Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsey were missed from the broadcaster's leader profiles, which lists Rishi Sunak, Sir Keir Starmer, Sir Ed Davey, Nigel Farage and Rhun ap Iorwerth, who is leader of Plaid Cymru in Wales. Also missing from the line up is SNP leader John Swinney and parties contesting the July 4 poll in Northern Ireland.

The omission of the Greens' leaders prompted outrage on social media, with one supporter slamming the BBC.

Josh Morris-Blake tweeted a link to the BBC's complaints page, commenting: "I never realised the Green Party didn’t have leaders! Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsay must be mere figments of my strange imagination. Complaint submitted to BBC."

Fellow X user Siân Harris replied: "They managed to get Farage on there and he only made himself leader of his party yesterday (Tuesday, June 4)."

Another X user, Dr Saskia Sabelus tweeted: "Shocking. A party with several hundred councillors and one MP is not listed - yet Reform - with fewer than a dozen councillors and an MP who defected from the Tories - is listed. Greens have gained many more votes. BBC News what's going on?"

Express.co.uk has approached the BBC for comment. A Green Party Spokesperson said the BBC as a public broadcaster has a responsibility to offer the public a range of political views.

They added: "By platforming and profiling small parties like Reform UK and not the Green Party they are doing a disservice to this obligation.

"Greens are offering real hope and real change at this election and the BBC are failing the electorate by not giving that message the platform it should."

Absence of some leaders from the BBC's profiles points to the challenges smaller parties face in gaining the public's attention.

The Liberal Democrat leader, Sir Ed Davey, has arguably mastered the art of grabbing headlines, most recently by slipping off a paddleboard on Lake Windermere during a campaign stunt.

Green Party co-leader Adrian Ramsay did appear on the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme on June 2, telling the show's host that three of the party's election candidates were "no longer going forward" after reports of inappropriate comments.

He said the Green Party took suggestions of antisemitism and any form of racism very seriously, with three candidates who had been selected no longer going forward.

Mr Ramsay said his party was planning to get at least four MPs elected "to push the new government to be bolder".

He said the party had a "fantastic chance of winning" the constituencies of Bristol Central, Waveney Valley, North Herefordshire and Brighton Pavilion.

Asked on ITV News on Tuesday whether he would "push the nuclear button", Mr Ramsay answered with an emphatic, "No".

The comments came ahead of the first YouGov MRP model of the 2024 General Election, using data from 58,000 people.

It shows the Green party looks set to double its presence in Westminster to two MPs, adding Bristol Central to Brighton Pavillion.
