The cannabinoid delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) significantly reduced pain in men with chronic radicular neuropathic pain, found a small study in Neurology.

The study included 15 men with medium to high radicular nerve pain for more than 6 months. Before the intervention, participants rated their pain and underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Nine participants received a single sublingual dose of THC oil and 6 received placebo. Participants assessed their pain 1 hour later and repeated the fMRI 2 hours after the intervention. The groups crossed over at least 1 week after the intervention.
