Calling Natalie D. Tamulis 1920 2002 LUDLOW Natalie D. Tamulis passed away Monday May 13, 2002 at her home in Ludlow, following a short illness. Jaffe taught at the University of Massachusetts from 1965-1991, and was also three times a visiting professor at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Prior his appointment in Massachusetts, Jaffe was a research scientist with the Union Carbide Corporation, where his research led to the development of the YAG diamond, now widely used in laser surgery. From 1942-1957, Jaffe worked in variety capacities for the U.S. Government Bureau of Mines, U.S. Department of Interior, or search and assisting allied war Jaffe's wife of forty years, Elizabeth Boudreau Jaffe, died in 1999.

He is survived three children, Andrew Conway, MA, Stephen of Durham, N.C., and Marina of Amherst, well as eight grandchildren. Joseph F. Newman Sr. 1909 2002 NANTUCKET man, 92 of Nantucket, MA, Joseph F. New144 Orange St. died in Nantucket Cottage Hospital on May 9, 2002.

Formerly of 35 Vadnais a W.W. II Army veteran, he served with the Engineer Combat Batallion in Central Europe. He graduated from the former Technical High School in 1926, and was retired as a salesman from Polep Bros. Distributors in 1972. Since his retirement, he volunteered at the Chapin Center Nursing Home where he was voted volunteer of the year for two consecutive years.

He was an avid Red Sox fan and adventurous traveler. He spent many winters in Barefoot Bay, Florida, and most recently came to love Nantucket Island where he spent many happy times with his grandsons, Joe and Jeff Paul, residents of Nantucket as well. He leaves three other grandchildren, Ashlie Joseph, and Nicholas and Arthur Newman. He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary (Taylor) of 59 years in 1998; he was the devoted father to Joseph F. Newman of Ware, Mary Ann (Mayma) Paul of Northampton, MA, and Margaret (Maggie) Joseph of Agawam, MA.

Mr. Newman is also survived by his sisters, Claire Egan of San Diego, CA, Ruth Gould of Longmeadow, MA, as well as two brothers, John Newman of Springfield, MA and Clyde Newman of San Diego, in addition to many friends on Nantucket. Dow. Robert resided in Burling. ton, CT and Wilbraham and Agawam, before moving to Belchertown 26 years ago. He was a skilled machinist in the manufacturing industry working for Bath Iron Works in Maine, General Electric, Pratt Whitney and most recently Jahn Foundry in Springfield before retiring in 1982. He enjoyed bowling and traveling in his leisure time.

He also loved camping, most especially up the coast of Maine. He was predeceased by his wife, Daisy E. (Simpson) Dow in 1995. He is survived by two sons and their wives, William and Janet (Spaulding) Dow of New Britain, CT, and Robert S. and Sara (Brown) Dow of Austin, Texas.

Truesdale was born in Boston, son of the late David A. and Margaret (Langell) Truesdale, and had lived in Stoneham, Worcester, and Sandwich for several years before moving and living in Shrewsbury for the past 9 years. Mr. Truesdale graduated from Stoneham High School, Class of 1931; and then graduated with a law degree from Northeastern University. During World War II, Mr.

Truesdale had served in the State National Guard. Mr. Truesdale's last employment had been as Secretary of the Corporation for Worcester Fire Mutual Insurance Company in Worcester for 16 years before his retirement in 1976. Previously, Mr. Truesdale had worked as a claims manager for many years for Hardware Mutual Insurance Company in Boston.
