They are done with physical media in Australia. GoG is the last disc to be sold there.

Sign of the times. I know I've said it before, and must sound like a broken record at this point, but I wish physical media player manufacturers (Panasonic, Sony, LG, etc) would start making Kaleidescape style players while the different streaming services would sell 4K downloads of their movies and TV shows that would require said players, whilst also catering to their customer base that's perfectly happy with streaming. Best of both worlds, really (with your "physical" media space only being limited by the amount of HDD storage you have).

Yeah I'm really starting to freak out about the coming landscape of media. I don't know exactly what it will look like but I know it will be a lot less consumer friendly.

The big studios will eventually shutter their home media divisions.

Disney will probably be the first one, and the last holdout will be either Warners or Paramount.

All new releases will either be streaming or digital purchases.

If we're lucky, instead of producing discs in-house, they'll allow boutique publishers like Shout, Arrow, and Criterion to license and release to the collectors market.

That sounds great. Leave it up to the film fans to seek out boutique collections.

I do miss the commentary tracks. I don't miss the clutter.

I agree - and I'll go further none of the characters seemed to have learned or changed much over our time with them. Drax has gone backwards - from naive to stupid - and I tend to assume that Groot is a new version too, because his 'growth' from stick to teenager has been disappointly trite.

We know that Peter has a mask with which he can breathe in space. We know that the Ravagers havs clones of his music. So.. how did he wind up risking his life for his Zune without his mask? The High Evolutionary had force-like powers that allowed him to kill several henchmen. Adam Warlock could defeat the GotG individually and was working for the HE. How could those two manage to lose to the Guardians? Why was Rocket OK with gunning down 'evolved' and brainwashed lackeys, but keen to rescue literal animals?

The music choices were nowhere near as good as in Vol. 1, and were weirdly shoehorned in too. And I hope Gunn doesn't bring his tendancy to run jokes into the ground (e.g. the unripe vegetable in V2, the 'bad dog' in V3) over to Superman..

Not quite, though. They're both the same Gamora with the same childhood and history, just at a different age. She's Gamora-A(minus 2-11yrs)

He met Gamora in.. 2014ish, by which point she'd been chaffing under Thanos' tutelage and influence for some time and literally just decided to betray him. So G2012 isn't quite at that point yet, but it desn't take much from futureNebula to convince her it's what she will do.

Now, 2014G isn't immediately in love with Quill, but the friendship and attraction is evident very swiftly. He does not have that bond with 2012G (never saved her in the Kiln, etc.) but she IS the person he fell in love with, and he has to wonder whether similar bonding experiences will lead her to see him similarly also.

A bigger point is that, while 2012G is two years younger than the 2014G he met in GotG v1, she's brought into the Endgame future of 2023. So there's a definite time gap - and maybe age gap - issue above and beyond their lack of shared experiences.

The first Groot died in Volume One, this is a new one grown from the old one.

Wow, that's a blast from the past! Remember how there was DivX and DIVX at the same time? That led to some really confusing conversations back in the day.

But, no, I was thinking of a more affordable version of this.

The more I think about this movie, the more I dislike it. However, the idiocy with Quill not using his breathing mask notwithstanding, I felt the deal with Zune was with regards to the hardware itself. It was the last gift he received from his recently deceased dad, Yandu. That's why Quill took such a reckless risk. So that scene (except for the lack of the aforementioned mask) does make sense.

Gunn says he didn't have his mask. Peter doesn't use it at all in the movie so this makes more sense than if he had it earlier but didn't use it for the spacewalk:

I get the vibe that's just a snarky response and the real reason is Gunn simply goofed. It happens to everyone.

No. I'm saying Gunn forgot the helmet when he wrote/shot that sequence.

Stupid sh*t like that happens all the time in movies. Just look at how they had to CGI Daniel Craig's hands for the whole Shanghai sequence in Skyfall, just because it didn't occur to anyone until the movie was being edited that Bond wearing gloves would mean he'd never be able to use the hand print scanner on the the gun Q gave him.

You’d have a better argument that Gunn forgot if Peter had used it in the film already.

Lame. When did we leave the timeline from GOTG and GOTG2 to end up with these doppelgangers? Sorry, I don't think any of the characters here are the same characters as the last two movies.

There really wasn't any other sequence where Quill would need his helmet (more a mask, really, since the top of his head remains exposed when he wears it in the previous movies). You could maybe argue he should have used it when they infiltrated Orgocorp, but it was clearly ignored to accommodate the comms buttons gag.

Which is why I think Gunn's "explanation" is nothing more than a snarky/joke answer.

As I mentioned before, these things happen. Again I refer you to Skyfall. There's a whole scene where Q is introduced and hands Bond a gun that's only functional if it registers Bond's hand print and a mini radio. Both these items are used during separate key sequences later on. One such sequence involves a gag where a random henchman gets a hold of Bond's gun but is unable to discharge it. However, neither Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig (whose idea it was for Bond to wear a pair of leather gloves), the script supervisor, the writers, or anyone else in the crew on the day of shooting realised that Bond wouldn't be able to use the gun either. This is a large sequence and would be very expensive to reshoot so CGI was used as a last minute fix.

That was a large budget film with a massive error brought on by simple forgetfulness. You think Gunn couldn't have had a similar brain fart? Do you seriously believe that Peter Quill left his nanotech breathing mask in a desk drawer, with not so much as an establishing shot to point out he left it behind, if it indeed was meant to be a key reason why he didn't have with him a key piece of gear that is practically synonymous with him? That's like Captain America forgetting his shield, Thor forgetting his hammer, or Spider-Man forgetting his web shooters.

I finally watched this last night. I really enjoyed it. It’s definitely the best post-Endgame MCU so far.

I’m also not likely to remember a single thing about it in a couple months.

The Skyfall example is just a blooper. A big one, but just a blooper.

What you’re basically saying is “why didn’t Captain America use his shield?” at the end of the movie when he didn’t have his shield at all at any point prior to the end of the movie.

Okay then why didn't Peter have his helmet? Did the movie at any point make so much as passing mention as to why he didn't have a key part of his character? Because when Cap didn't use his shield in Avengers: Infinity War, it was made crystal clear to the audience he no longer had it ("get this man a shield!"). That's the absence of a key item that is clearly addressed in the movie because it is ubiquitous to the character and affects said character's actions when in combat or peril. Keep in mind, however, that Gunn destroyed Quill's helmet in GotG2 (which is why Yondu had to sacrifice himself in that movie). It was the Russo Bros that introduced the new nanotech helmet. And Gunn has mentioned in the past that the Russos did things with the GotG cast he never would (presumably the death of Gamora being one such decision) but he rolled with them. It stands to reason, however, that he would simply have forgotten that the Russo Bros gave Quill a new helmet.
